Asking things politely in Manx

Introduction in Manx (Gaelg)

Asking things politely in Manx

The polite way to ask if someone wants something in Manx is with the construction “By vie lhiat …?” – literally: “Would … be good with you?”. In practice, it means: “Would you like …?”

The answer follows the same pattern: “By vie lhiam …”“I would like …” (it would be good with me).

When making a request, you can also add “my sailt”, which means please (literally: if it pleases you).
