Saying you like something in Manx

How Do You Say You Like Something?

Manx doesn’t use a regular verb for to like. Instead, it expresses the idea as “there is good with me.”

  • Mie lhiat? = “Is there good with you?” → “Do you like it?”
  • S’mie lhiam = “It is good with me” → “I like it.”
  • Cha mie lhiam = “It is not good with me” → “I don’t like it.”

It may sound unusual in English, but expressions like these are very typical in Manx—and they’re part of what gives the language its unique character.
