Questo vs questa

Greetings & Small Talk in Italian

Questo vs questa

"Questa è la mia amica Sofia" means "This is my friend Sofia," and "Questo è il mio amico Lorenzo" means "This is my friend Lorenzo." The difference lies in the gender of the noun they refer to:

  • Questa: Used with feminine nouns.
  • Questo: Used with masculine nouns.

Examples:

  • Feminine: Questa è la mia amica Sofia. (This is my friend Sofia.)
  • Masculine: Questo è il mio amico Lorenzo. (This is my friend Lorenzo.)

So, "questa" and "questo" agree with the gender of the noun (or in this instance: person) they describe.
